A fundamental principle of all GLA Trust Schools is a passionate belief that all of our children should be able to reach their full potential, regardless of the circumstances, race, gender or ability.
At Northway Infant School and Carrant Brook Junior School we have a team of staff who are committed to supporting all children and reducing barriers to learning by making appropriate adaptations to learning.
At Northway and Carrant Brook we pride ourselves on our ability to offer, and successfully deliver, a full curriculum that is inclusive to all children, irrespective of need. Our Schools are very proud of the inclusive approach we have towards our children’s education. We believe all children should have the support they need to SHINE.
We encourage parents to discuss their child’s progress and needs regularly with class teachers and, when appropriate, our SENDCo, Mrs Tess Jackson.
As a qualified teacher with a specialist masters level qualification in Special Educational Needs Co-ordination, Mrs. Jackson has worked as a SENDCo in local primary schools for over 13 years. She works very closely with all of the teaching staff, support staff and school leaders to advise on how to support children with a wide range of academic, physical and social needs. Mrs Jackson is a member of the school senior leadership team, helping to ensure that SEND is always on the agenda.
We carefully plan the supporting interventions for all groups of children in our schools and they are regularly reviewed. Support may be based inside or outside of the classroom. It may involve adaptations to classroom learning, small group or one-to-one sessions. It may include resources from within our schools and/or from the support services within the County.
We maintain very close working relationships with children, staff, parents/carers and another agencies. Indeed, partnerships with parents and carers is of the upmost importance. We are proud of our ability to support children with a variety of special educational needs and have taken steps to ensure that all children are treated equally.
We work closely with other agencies and organisations to ensure that we have the necessary expertise, and in some cases equipment, to manage the specific needs of individual pupils in our care. This includes the Advisory Teaching Service, the Educational Psychology Service and the Speech and Language service to name but a few.
The GLA trust board regularly review its provision for children with special educational needs and ensure that staff are well prepared and trained.

SENDIASS
Information, advice and support on matters relating to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. The service is offered to parents and carers of children and young people aged between 0 and 25 years old.
SENDIASS provides free, confidential, impartial advice and helps parents play an active and informed role in their child’s education.
